Mrs. Jemima M a m a Oware is a Barrister at Law and the current Registrar of Companies for the newly established Office of the Registrar of Companies (ORC) hived off the Registrar-General’s Department. The ORC is an autonomous governmental body established to continue to register and regulate businesses and all corporate entities operating in the country. She joined the Ministry of Justice and the Attorney-General’s Department (Prosecution Division) in 1987 as a n Assistant State Attorney and rose steadily through the ranks and was appointed Registrar – General from July 2017, an office she occupied until her appointment as Registrar of Companies in February 2022.
As Registrar-General working together with various experts, she played a key role in the design and passage of the Companies Act, 2019 (Act 992) and the Corporate Insolvency and Restructuring Act, 2020 (Act 1015, as amended by Act 1031 of 2020) to help modernise the legal and regulatory regime governing businesses to provide turn-around options for businesses that are distressed. By her appointment as the Registrar of Companies, she remains the Official Liquidator of distressed companies as well as the Regulator of Insolvency Practitioners under the newly set up Insolvency Services Division of the ORC.
She joined and became a member of Action Chapel International in 1987 and is currently a Member of the Counselling Department as well as a Deaconess of the church. She is married with 5 adult children and 4 grandchildren.
